Olympic, Sports, and The Bible

running stopwatch 1

Why is it that the world is full of sports nuts?  Think about it, no other television station for the next 2 weeks is playing anything worthwhile becuase they know their ratings won't hold a candle to the Olympics.  And let's not even begin to talk about how much ad spots are costing.

Even women who can't stand it when their husband "talk sports" seem to find themselves drwan into a sport or two when it comes to the Olympics.  Why is it that so many people seem to love them?

Perhaps we're enamored because we all automatically have a favorite team, (USA! USA! USA!) or maybe it's because we can all relate to working hard to achieve a dream.

Whatever the reason we'll all probably watch a sporting event or two over the course of the next few weeks.  And we'll probably all use an extra sports metaphor or two to get our points across in the coming days.

Did you know that there are actually 2 olympic sports mentioned in the Bible?  I'll give you a hint, they're both mentioned in the New Testament, and they're both mentioned in the same verse.   (You can find the answer here.)

Sports are mentioned in scripture, because we can all relate to them.  As Christians we're all in the same fight, we're all running the same race, and we're all competing for the same prize, to hear our Creator say, "Well done my good and faithful servant."
