Thou art careful and troubled about many things

Do you let the little things trouble you? There will always be something  that needs to be done, a chore, an errand, a goal.

I remember my last semester in college I was preparing for a Music recital, completing 24 credit hours (crazy I know) planning a wedding, and working 3 different jobs.

I was BUSY!  I used sticky notes to organize my time, everything I needed to do was written down on a sticky note and posted on the back of my bedroom door.  As I'd finish a paper, complete a work project, or practice a music piece I'd take the sticky note off of my door and rip it up.  It was terribly fulfilling each time I could rip up a sticky note.

I graduated, I got married, and despite my efforts to complete everything on a firm time table, there were still sticky notes on the back of my bedroom door after I moved out of my parent's home.  And you know what, even though everything on my to-do list didn't get done, meteors didn't start careening towards earth, the world didn't stop spinning, and Armageddon didn't happen.

To-do lists are necessary.  If I just stopped cooking, doing dishes, or doing the laundry my family wouldn't be able to eat and we'd have nothing to wear.  Our work in perpetual....................but,

Even though there will always be one more chore that could be done doesn't mean that it has to be done, or even should be done.  It's all about prioritizing.

Our schedules are important to God.  He cares for us, He cares for the children we are raising.  He cares for the joy in our homes.

What is your first priority?

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Luke 10:38-42

  1. Great post! I think that if I have my priorities right then I am way less stressed.
