Tapping my Trees

I'm not entirely sure where the idea came from, maybe my daughter's recent obsession with pancakes, but I got it in my head that I'd be tapping my maple trees this year.  I was so excited when the weather turned, the sap in the gallon jug above is just after a few hours!  I already boiled my first batch (read minuscule amount) of syrup.

I figured this will be something fun to do in future years with the girls.  I was able to purchase the spigots at our local hardware store, but if you're interested in doing this yourself you can also find them online.  I found all of the information on how to do this nifty project on http://www.tapmytrees.com/.  There's still time in many parts of the country if you want to do this, but you need to get the spigots in the trees yesterday, unless of course you live in the Great White North (Michigan's Upper Penninsula or Canada).  If any of you see Ivy at church ask her where syrup comes from, she'll be able to tell you : )

  2. I couldn't find the comment button for your abortion post. Lila Terhune's book "Cross Pollination" said that before every great move of God there was a slaughtering of babies (Moses, Jesus). It is a sign of things to come. I cannot imagine how anyone could not choose life:) Kudos for tackling such a heart issue!
