The Fool Hath Said In His Heart

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they
have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Psalm14:1

Reading this scripture with my husband yesterday made me pose a few questions to myself.

Where am I getting advice in parenting?  Am I following secular trends or seeking the godly counsel of those who have raised children who  have a relationship with Christ? Do I own more books on Christian parenting, or books by secular scientists who have rejected the notion of God?

Am I getting my opinions about social issues from the Word of God or the media that says there is no God that so easily saturates my life?

Am I finding contentment in the places that the world says one can find happiness or do I have the true joy of Christ?

Am I watching or reading the foolish things of the world?  Things that glorify sin and displease God, just because it has become normal and accepted by those who have said in their hearts, "there is no God".

Although it necessarily wrong to read secular books, magazines, or news stories; and although it isn't inherently wrong to watch secular movies or television shows; if I am filling my life with more things of this world than things of God I am taking the advice and world views of fools. In the end I would much rather my family and I be influenced by godly things that are wise than the things that are foolish.

This starts every morning when my husband and I open our Bible and read together.  Before I can allow anyone or anything else to influence my opinions, God's Word influences my thoughts.

  1. I'm an email subscriber, so I read your blog often but don't always comment. I appreciated the great reminder in this post. I think life's too short to waste with the non-essentials. Only things of the Lord will last!
