Surrendering to What we Need

6:00 this morning, my husbands and my prayer time, we hear from my eldest’s bedroom tears that would break your heart. I’m not sure if she had a nightmare but one thing was clear she was not going to go back to sleep.  My husband went to get her and we all settled on the couch in hopes she might fall asleep while snuggling.

It was clear to me that she needed to sleep, but she refused to give in.  Why is it we sometimes resist the thing that we need the most?  Why is it that we run from surrendering fully to God when it’s what our spirit so desperately cries out for, and would give us the rest we truly need.  Not long in to the morning I found Ivy curled up in her sister’s baby swing, sleeping with her Elmo.  She finally gave in and was a much happier and peaceful little girl for it.
