Allergy Attacks and Sowing Seeds of Peace

Cooking is something I absolutely love to do.  It's a giant stress reliever and it just makes me feel I'm contributing something good to the family.  Unfortunately I've recently developed a severe allergic reaction any time I try to bake something, or use certain seasonings while cooking.  One or two sneezes is one thing, but these are the type of allergy attacks that force me to take sleep inducing benadryl or wind up sneezing for 6 hours straight.  (you read that right 6 hours, at least)

I refuse however to get down about this, it just means I have to get more creative in how I cook and depend more on my wonderful husband for help.   He's been doing a lot of measuring and mixing for me lately.  And I suppose this may be God's way of answering my prayer for weight loss because all the sneezing sure curtails my baking.

Yesterday I had my husband mix up some pumpkin pancake batter.  We used the recipe found here, (we made it gluten  free by adding a packet of gelatin and using 1 cup buckwheat and 1/4 cornstarch rather than all purpose flour)  they were delicious, my daughter has been requesting pancakes almost every morning since the first time I made them for her.  For being such a picky eater I was surprised she gobbled up the pancakes as quickly as she did, but my husband used cookie cutters to make them look like cats.  Apparently everything tastes better when it looks like a cat.

I've got big plans for the two pumpkins sitting on my entertainment center at the moment.  They will be changed from pretty fall decorations to something tasty and most likely sugary.  I'll have to get Ivy to help clean out the pumpkins again, she delights in any messes she can make.

Making my home into a haven this fall has been a real challenge, and I so appreciated it.  Not only has it given me something to write about, but it's forced me to think about what my home really is.  It's not just where my husband sleeps at night or where my girl's play during the day.  It's a place where my girl's will first meet God, and where I hope my husband desires to come after a long day's work.

What I reap in my home I will sow.  If I sow disorganization and chaos, that is the type of household I will have.  Whereas if I take the time and sow seeds of order and peace, my home will be one of peacefulness.  My home also has everything to do with my attitude, and this is something I need help with daily.  I can take every blog challenge that comes down the pike, but if I'm not dependent on God I will fail miserably.  It is only through his strength that this home will become the haven that it needs to be.

"That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed."
Titus 2:4-5

  1. This has been a good challenge, huh? I am sorry about the allergies! I love that you're looking for something positive in it all.
