My Frustrated Toddler

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 55:22

One of my recent facebook status updates read, "My house was clean, then 6:00 happened."  For whatever reason 6:00 is a very crazy time in this household.  I have dinner that is almost made, a very hungry, fussy toddler, a dog who thinks it's his dinner time, and a husband who will be arriving home shortly.  Last night however it seemed like everything was coming together.  I had given Ivy her dinner early, the dog was actually calm and I had dinner warming in the stove for when my husband came home.  I even had Ivy contentedly playing with her doll house and farm house so I could feed the baby.

I had just settled into feeding Felicity when I hear shrieking from Ivy's bedroom.  The screaming wasn't high enough to mean pain so I gave it a minute.  The yelling continued so I got up to see what was the matter.  By this time Ivy had started to look for me, because something (in her mind) was horribly wrong.  The second I got into her bedroom I knew what was the matter, it took a lot of effort not to laugh because Ivy's problem was so obvious.  She had gotten one of her toy horses wedged in her doll house, apparently he had come over for some sort of party but was too big.  After I extracted the party crasher, Ivy was fine and continued to happily play with her toys.

There are certainly moments when I get overwhelmed with the tantrums, but then I remind myself these are the most frustrating moments Ivy has ever experienced in her life.  Getting a horse stuck in a Malibu dollhouse is equal to losing an expensive piece of jewelry or breaking an antique heirloom, it's a big-time problem to her.  I'm so glad I have a God that is compassionate.  He understands the same is true for us,  the problems in our lives that seem so huge and all encompassing really aren't that big of a deal in the long run. God tells us to cast our burdens, worries, and fears on him.  He's not bothered when we come to Him with our problems like an overwhelmed toddler.  He wants to help us and teach us to rely on Him.  It's such a blessing to know I can go to God with anything. Like Ivy looking for me when her precious horse got stuck, I need to seek out God whenever I'm worried or tempted. He's the one who can solve all my problems.

Upon Almighty God
May we cast all our cares
Knowing that He's in control
His hand is everywhere

  1. Oh, I remember those days. I spent a lot of time chasing away imaginary ducks for my son.
A duck actually got a hold of his diaper at his grandparents, hence the imaginary ducks. Other stuff comes to mind also. You will look back at these moments later in life and they will be precious. I invite you to follow my blog.

  3. Kasey, once again you have spoken through the Spirit a basic truth that all parents must learn; there are times we must lay are burdens before our Lord. What a blessing. I love the story as I am sure did the Lord!

    Praise the name of Jesus,

    Steve
