The Secret of the Proverb's 31 Woman

The woman who is described in Proverbs 31 has a deep dark secret that so many of us have glazed over as we study, try to emulate, and sometimes just plain envy the woman described in this chapter of the Bible.

Do you want to know what the secret is?

She wasn't  perfect.

No, she woke up with messy hair and morning breath like the rest of us.  She may have been a "virtuous woman" but let's face it the Bible makes it pretty clear that there is "none righteous" (Romans 3:10).  She had her flaws too!  Maybe she had a short temper when she got tired, maybe she spent too much money on those fine linens, or maybe she sometimes neglected her morning prayer time.  Since it's clear that no one is perfect, except Christ, we can rest assured that this woman wasn't either.

Talk about breathing a sigh of relief, there is no way any of us could ever live up to what this woman looks like on paper, or can we?

This woman was called "blessed" by her children not because she was perfect all the time but because she worked daily (depending on God the whole time) to be the best woman, the best wife, and the best mother she could for her family.  And when all was said and done, they didn't remember the times she yelled at them, they didn't remember the times that she went on an angry cleaning spree, they didn't remember when her spirit was less than lovely.  Her family and her husband saw that she had faith in the Lord, and ultimately were convinced that she was better than any other woman on the planet!

Sure her family saw this woman at her worst, but her best was what has been remembered by generations.

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also,
and he praiseth her.
 Many daughters have done virtuously,
 but thou excellest them all.
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman
that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
Proverbs 31:28-30
