Delighting God

The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
Psalm 147:11

Isn't it wonderful to know that God takes pleasure in our faith?  Our daily worship of God, and daily demonstration of faith brings God, creator of the universe, happiness.  So often we treat worship, and having faith in God as if it's just beneficial for us, rather than pleasing to God.  We get into the mentality that a worship service at church should leave us feeling  uplifted, and we're entitled to a mountain-top experience every time we walk through the church doors.

As we serve God and worship him we shouldn't have an attitude of selfishness. Desiring an emotional experience while worshiping God isn't necessarily bad, but it misses the true intention of worship.   Unfortunately I've heard the phrase, "I just didn't get anything out of church today" one too many times, and in fact I know I've been guilty of thinking it.

Going to church and worshiping God, or merely singing God's praises in our own homes, isn't about the feeling it gives us.  It's not about lifting our spirits, it's about giving God the honor and glory due to His name.  It's about pleasing him and making him happy.  It doesn't matter if the songs being sung aren't your favorite, it doesn't matter if you don't care for the style of music as long as it's God honoring.  What matters is coming to God with a heart that desires to worship and please Him, not ourselves.

When we come to God with that heart, we can be sure that he's delighted.
